R. Preston Mason, PhD, MBA

President and Founder

Dr. R. Preston Mason received his PhD in cell biology and biophysics from the University of Connecticut Health Center and an MBA from Robert Morris University. He has been a faculty member at different medicals schools, including the University of Connecticut School of Medicine and the Medical College of Pennsylvania and Hahnemann University (now Drexel University College of Medicine). Since 2001, Dr. Mason has been on the faculty of the Harvard Medical School affiliated hospital, Brigham and Women’s, where he participates in various education and research programs. He has published over 500 scientific research articles, book chapters, and abstracts and is a frequent lecturer at national and international meetings.

Samuel C.R. Sherratt, PhD

Chief Scientific Officer

Dr. Sherratt received his PhD in biochemistry from the University of New Hampshire and has coauthored more than 150 research publications and scientific presentations related to his research activities, including a recent letter in Circulation. Dr. Sherratt directs and oversees all scientific initiatives and facilitates collaborations with university and life science industry partners. He has worked on discovery programs directed towards novel targets in cell membranes, as well as reversing endothelial dysfunction, inflammation and oxidative stress causatively related to cardiovascular disease. He has published original research on the quality of dietary fish oil supplements as well as widely-used generics working with international partners and the Cleveland Clinic. A portion of this work was featured as part of a special report on supplements in the New York Times and Frontline. He routinely presents our company’s research findings at national and international cardiology congresses, including the American College of Cardiology, European Society of Cardiology and the American Heart Association.

Robert F. Jacob, PhD

Consultant and Scientific Adviser

Dr. Robert F. Jacob received his PhD in neuroscience from Drexel University College of Medicine (formerly the Medical College of Pennsylvania and Hahnemann University) in 2000. His pioneering work in the areas of membrane biophysics, membrane lipid structural organization, and oxidative stress has provided impetus to core research efforts at Elucida Research and has resulted in numerous publications in key scientific journals. Dr. Jacob is also a consummate teacher and has trained and mentored numerous scientists who work for Elucida Research and its partners. In addition to his ongoing contributions to research and development at Elucida Research, Dr. Jacob also lends his expertise in data analysis, graphics design, science illustration, and creative writing to advance science communication efforts on behalf of the company and its clients.
